Planning; Mise-en-scene, Costume

The following has been written up by Titus Goremucheche as part of the Mise-en-scene for the opening of the film.

These are a few ideas of the costume for 'CARRIE'. My aim here is to look into clothes that were worn in the 1800s by women and  from that gather a brief outlook on what the character playing Carrie will wear.

I really like the look of this sort of dress because its plain and simple and instantly gives the impression that that dress was worn back in the 1800s a lot compared to what women wear now. Also the dress looks scary and its length means that we can tamper with its length to make sure that it fits to our character best. But we can also use its length to an advantage to draw the audiences attention more to the face of CARRIE rather that what she is wearing. the colour of this dress is also very beneficial because if we decide to 
give Carrie any blood splats or discoloring on her
 dress; it will be very visible and more effective.

This is another idea of what Carrie could wear this is a night gown and my idea here is that if we made Carrie wear this it would link in more with the situation that shes hangs her self in because shes in her bedroom when she hangs her self and wearing a gown would make more sense if she hung her self wearing this. also like the first one the colour of this one is also nice and again is we wanted to add any blood splats and discoloring we could because it would be visible to the audience. also its length means that we can tamper with it to best fit our character playing Carrie. 




These are the costume for the character of  Matthew.The costume for Matthew is very simple and basic, the way we are going to dress Matthew is dependent on his attitude.
If we made Matthew wear pyjamas then it would make him come across as a posh rich kid, who is not very laid back which contrasts the casting information for Matthew. also wearing pyjamas can across as being posh because no teenaged boy between 16-18 is that interested in going to bed wearing pyjamas, they are very lazy and when it comes to sleep they just strip down to their boxer shorts and get into bed.

If we made Matthew wear boxer shorts it would make him come across as a laid back character  where as if we made him wear pyjamas he would be very apprehensive and i don't think that that would work well for our horror movie. so in conclusion we are going to make Matthew wear boxer shorts because its simple basic and its a norm for the majority of teenage boys to wear she they are going to bed.

This task will help us when filming, so we clearly know what the actors are going to be wearing on screen. This means that we can purchase, costumes if needed and conquer any problems before hand. If we decide what costume the actors will have know it will stop mistakes like, different outfits worn by the same character in the same scene. the costumes can also be checked pre hand if they are realistic to the situation and it they fit and are comfortable with the actors so we can get the best result when filming.
