Momentum pictures is one of the leading independent motion picture distributors in the UK and Ireland. So therefore having a well known distributor company will mean that they have more links with other companies in ways that would help distribute our film vastly. An example of what i mean is Sony. Sony is a major media conglomerate which means that they have a lot of links with other companies that would help distribute their film. Lets take Sky Fall for example Sony did everything they could to help distribute that film for example the Olympics when Daniel Craig jumped out of a helicopter as James Bonds onto the Olympic stadium that was one way of advertising Sky Fall to people all over the world. This worked out effectively because the Guardian newspaper stated that roughly around 95% of the British population watched the opening ceremony. That's a very wide audience that Sony would have reached with that short clip of James Bond jumping out of a helicopter onto the stadium.
To begin with our media project was a small budget film which meant that being in connection with major media conglomerates would be off the table. We would have to result in smaller media distributors that may not be as big as Sony, Walt Disney Company and News Corporation . These small distributors include Momentum, CBS, and Alliance Films. Distributors such as these would be the ideal ones for our media project because although they are not big media conglomerates they still distributes high standards of films. for example Momentum pictures has distributed some of the big blockbuster to hit the film industry; films such as the Woman In Black starring Daniel Radcliffe, Sinister, Insidious, The Kings Speech and Law Abiding Citizen starring Samuel. L Jackson. these are just only a few of films that they have distributed that have had great success. If we had to choose one main distributor for our project it would have to be Momentum pictures
Another way Sony distributed Sky Fall is by Adele singing her Hit record titled 'Sky Fall' this song was the theme song for the film. However "Sky fall" was released on 5 October 2012 as part of the Global James Bond Day, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the release of Dr. No, the first James Bond film. The song quickly went to the top of the iTunes chart, and reached number two at the UK Singles Chart and eight on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was released 18 days before the actual film was released and with in that lapse of time the recognition of the film Sky Fall grew vastly.
Momentum pictures may not have that sort of power within them to distribute a film as well as Sony can but they are still worthy contenders. A recent and similar film to ours that momentum have distributed is Woman in Black starring Daniel Radcliffe. Momentum used Daniel Radcliffe to their advantage by that he was in Harry Potter and that Woman in Black would have been his first film out of the Harry Potter sequels. Momentum made sure that Daniel was in all the posters to make sure the audience knew that he was the main character and mainly to draw in all the Harry Potter fans to come and watch the film. Momentum made sure that Daniel Radcliffe was in all the popular talk shows that people watched to help advertise the film, this worked out very effectively for Woman in Black because once people heard about the film it was all word of mouth that advertised the film even more. people would tweet about the film some people would tell their family and friends and word about Woman in Black would have spread in a matter of hours.
In addition to that Woman in Black was also advertised in Comic Con which a major event nowadays that attracts all sorts of people and they all come in numbers. This was another effective way in which Momentum distributed Woman in Black.
I think that Momentum would be a perfect distribution company for our film because they work hard to make small budget films into big blockbusters films such as Woman in Black. They help small independent companies such as Hammer films gain recognition within the film industry and i think that working with Momentum pictures would gain us that recognition. Another reason is that they aim to get the best out of the film they are distributing; like in Woman in Black. Originally it was going to be a 15 certificate but Momentum thought it would be better to cut 6 seconds to make the film into a 12A certificate. they did this so that they could draw all age ranges.
This obviously worked well for Woman in Black and i think that with the guidance and driven power that Momentum have they could help our film be distributed as effective as Woman in Black was.
